According to a Greenpeace survey this winter at least 𝟭𝟬𝟬'𝟬𝟬𝟬 empty planes flew into the skies of the European Union.
The reason for these "ghost flights" would lie in a Community rule according to which if a company that controls a slot in a given airport does not fly enough planes, it loses control and it is passed on to others.
Regardless of whether the flights made have real passengers or not.
The sum of these unnecessary flights is estimated to have the same emissions as 𝟭, 𝟰 million petrol / diesel cars a year. "Scroll through the comic or view it entirely here:
