Diversity and Inclusion

Diversity and inclusion are a fundamental pillar of social sustainability.

In the United States, brands stepped up in celebration of Black History Month by financially investing in support, career development and advancement for people of colour.

The beauty industry is at the forefront.

Estée Lauder has announced a new partnership with Howard University called She's Howard: Own Your Power. The program supports some alumni and offers black female students the opportunity to access professional coaching, vocational training and self-empowering mentoring programs.

L'Oréal has unveiled a partnership with NAACP, launching the Inclusive Beauty Fund. This grant program will award 30 grants of $10,000 each to small owned businesses and/or professional services of black entrepreneurs.

The launch of the new nonprofit ADD Psalt is facing diversity in fast moving consumer goods.

Supported by the UK supermarkets Tesco, Sainsbury's, Waitrose and Ocado, the accelerator will offer £46,000 to colour-owned companies to develop, distribute and market food and drink brands.

A celebration of black culture and influence is also emerging in this space, with the upcoming launch of MOFAD's African/American: ‘Making the Nation's Table’ exhibition, dedicated to highlight the fundamental influence of the black population on culinary American identity.

Ensuring your organization is inclusive is imperative by going further on with community-centric external initiatives that support people of colour in their daily lives.
